Michigan State Basketball: Gavin Schilling cleared to practice
Michigan State basketball received some good news on Monday as Gavin Schilling has been cleared to practice.
Monday was a good day for Michigan State basketball. Besides learning the home and away opponents for the upcoming Big Ten season, the Spartans also received some positive news regarding Gavin Schilling.

The senior forward missed the entire 2016-17 season due to a knee injury he suffered right before Midnight Madness and it hurt the depth in the post tremendously. However, he got a fifth year and has been working his way back to the court.
According to reports from Jon Rothstein, Schilling has been cleared to practice with the team while Ben Carter is doing personal workouts and should be ready by September.
This is big news for Michigan State since they will need a senior leader in the post amid all the young talent. In fact, the Spartans will have two seniors down low in Carter and Schilling while the rest, outside of forward Kenny Goins, will be underclassmen.
Nick Ward in entering his sophomore season while Jaren Jackson Jr. and Xavier Tillman are incoming freshmen looking to learn the ropes. That’s where Schilling and Carter will come in. While neither played a minute last season, both had a hand in the development of Ward who took tips and pointers all year.

Schilling hasn’t played since the 2015-16 season and still has a bad taste in his mouth from the Middle Tennessee loss in the first round. He’s poised to have a career year for the Spartans and head coach Tom Izzo has to be pleased with the news of his return.
