Did Michigan State football coach Mark Dantonio give away a looming commitment at Big Ten Media Days?

The 2018 recruiting class for Michigan State football is taking shape quite nicely. Although it’s not as highly-rated as many thought it might be, due to the poor 2016 season and subsequent offseason, the Spartans have 13 guys currently committed who fit the Mark Dantonio mold.

Michigan State has landed some four-star recruits in Trenton Gillison, Theo Day and Xavier Henderson, but most of the class is made up of under-the-radar prospects. Some of which, such as Davion Williams and Michael Dowell, could end up being stars.

At Big Ten Media Days on Monday, Dantonio was asked to talk about the state of the program and he brought up the number of commitments he has in his 2018 class. What he didn’t realize is the fact he may have spilled the beans on a looming commitment.

Sure, it could have been a slip of the tongue, but most coaches know the exact number of commitments because they have to factor it in to the number of takes they can have in a given class. Dantonio knows full well how many commits he has in 2018, so he may have just given away a new commitment.

There are two guys that come to mind if that’s the case. One is three-star linebacker Chase Kline who is announcing his decision at 1 p.m. Tuesday and the other is three-star defensive tackle Dashaun Mallory who’s expected to decide soon.

Either way, there will be a decision to be made tomorrow on a top Michigan State target, but Dantonio may have been referring to someone else. We are officially on commit watch.
