Michigan State basketball coach Tom Izzo perfected the five-second rule on Saturday during a recruiting trip.

The offseason is long, boring and has few twists and turns when it comes to off-court stories. That’s why when Michigan State basketball coach Tom Izzo is caught on camera doing something we’ve all been guilty of during our lifetime, it becomes a story.

During a recent recruiting trip — he’s been all over watching 2018 and 2019 targets in the AAU circuit — Izzo was caught dropping a piece of popcorn on the ground and then nonchalantly picking it up and eating it.

Totally harmless, but the internet has gone crazy over the video.

Someone in attendance of the game was filming him when the perfect moment happened. Izzo didn’t even break conversation, picking up his food and tossing it in his mouth, perfecting the five-second rule. Heck, he probably did it in three seconds.

Michigan fans are having fun with this, too, ever since Spartan faithful, along with the rest of the country, gave them grief for Jim Harbaugh allegedly chomping on his own boogers. No, this isn’t nearly as bad as that situation because, well, popcorn is actually food.

Either way, this is hilarious. Let’s just say Izzo is anti-littering and he respects a green environment.
