2. Kalon Gervin commits to Virginia Tech

The trend has been relatively obvious when it comes to four-star Detroit, Mich., defensive back Kalon Gervin. Although the Spartans made sure he was a priority, and that he felt the love, since de-committing from Notre Dame a couple months back, he has been looking like a lock to head elsewhere, namely Virginia Tech, in 2018.

Let’s face it, Detroit is going to be tough for Dantonio to recruit for some time with Jim Harbaugh dominating the city and with what happened with Curtis Blackwell. There’s a major black eye on Michigan State through the lenses of Detroit prospects.

Gervin, though, recently named the Spartans in his top five along with Virginia Tech, Oregon, Oklahoma and Louisville. However, his relationship with the Hokies is strengthening and he’s visiting at the end of this month. He was recently asked if he could leave Virginia Tech committed and he said yes.

Given the recent trend and his quotes regarding the Hokies, I’m going to say he commits to Virginia Tech over the Spartans by the end of July. Tough loss for Michigan State.
