5. Joey Hauser, 4-star PF, Stevens Point (Wisc.)

While I look at Joey Hauser as maybe Michigan State’s second or third option at the power forward position in the 2018 class, there are some who believe Izzo values him more than any other big on the board. It’s no surprise that he’s looked at as a ‘Plan A’ target, but he may not bring as much to the table as other guys higher on this list, in my opinion.

Don’t get me wrong, Hauser is an impressive talent. He stands 6-foot-8 and 210 pounds and can step back and make 3-point jumpers all day long. He’s got excellent touch from long range and can drive to the basket and score inside, if he needs to. Hauser may not be a “bruiser” like Matt Costello was, but he has some of the same traits.

In fact, his outside touch for a big would make him the first real jump-shooting big since Adreian Payne — although Jaren Jackson Jr. can also make the long-range jumpers.

To no one’s surprise, the Wisconsin-native is being courted by two in-state powers in Wisconsin and Marquette and it will take a lot of convincing by Izzo for him to leave the state. He’s ranked the No. 25 recruit in the 2018 class as well as the top Wisconsin prospect, according to the 247Sports composite.
