Michigan State Basketball: Tom Izzo’s contract extended through 2024

More Tom Izzo, please. Michigan State basketball fans can rest easy knowing that the Hall of Fame head coach was given a slight contract extension by the MSU Board of Trustees on Wednesday.

What does this mean? Well, the head coach got a one-year extension, making him Michigan State’s basketball coach through 2024.
If you’re counting, that means there will be at least seven more season with Izzo at the helm. Anyone who knows college basketball realizes that it’s a great thing for Michigan State and bad news for everyone else.
On top of that, AD Mark Hollis and women’s basketball coach Suzy Merchant also received one-year extensions. Hollis will be the AD at least through the 2022 season, barring drastic changes, and Merchant will be there through 2024 as well.
It’s clear that the Board of Trustees has faith in Hollis to turn things around after a tumultuous past year for the athletic program. That’s something that should make Spartan fans feel good about. Things seem to be heading back in the right direction.
As for Michigan State basketball, it’s in the best of hands. Izzo isn’t going anywhere any time soon, and that’s not much of a surprise as he stated during 2016 Midnight Madness that he had at least 5-7 good years left in him.

More Izzo is good for the Spartans, but you can hear a collective groan from every opposing fan, player and coach in the conference.
