Michigan State football recruiting picked up a commitment from three-star 2018 cornerback Davion Williams from Belleville, Mich., Saturday.

Not long after missing on four-star linebacker DeAndre Square, Michigan State football picked up a different in-state target in the form of three-star cornerback Davion Williams on Saturday.

Williams, a Belleville, Mich., native is exactly what the Spartans needed after missing on Square and a few other in-state targets thus far in the 2018 class. He has been high on the Spartans ever since they offered him back on May 11.

Fortunately, Williams plays a position of need as the Spartans’ defensive backfield has been thinned out this offseason. He will come in right away and compete for playing time.

Moreover, he plays two sports as he’s also a four-star shooting guard. Tom Izzo could talk to him about being a dual-sport athlete — something that hasn’t been done successfully much at Michigan State.

Williams is a talented two-sport star who can excel on the hardwood, but is also a lockdown cornerback on the gridiron. He’s got quick hips and his reaction time is impressive. He’s also fast enough to stay hip-to-hip with most receivers and doesn’t get burned often. He will be a solid addition to the defensive backfield.
