Michigan State basketball is set to host Notre Dame in the 2017 Big Ten-ACC Challenge this upcoming fall.

We are still about five months away from the start of the 2017-18 Michigan State basketball season, but the Spartans already know a crucial non-conference matchup.

The annual Big Ten-ACC Challenge is filled with excitement for Michigan State fans, usually because the Spartans get paired up with top-tier teams from the opposing conference.

According to Jeff Goodman, that will be the case once again as the Spartans will play host to Notre Dame this fall as the Fighting Irish get the task of traveling to East Lansing.

This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise matchup seeing as the Spartans have played North Carolina and Louisville in recent years and they will already face Duke this season so they’re out. Notre Dame is the next best thing and the Irish are coming off a 26-10 season in which they were dropped in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Mike Brey constantly exceeds expectations in South Bend and he’s bringing back a solid team. However, this should be a very winnable game for Tom Izzo and the Spartans. With Miles Bridges returning and both Ben Carter and Gavin Schilling back and healthy, Michigan State could be the No. 1 team in the land.

The ACC won the last conference vs. conference challenge last year, but the Big Ten either won or tied the previous seven. The all-time series record is 11-5-2 in the ACC’s favor.
