Michigan State recruiting received a surprise commitment from three-star 2017 athlete Shakur Brown on Saturday.

While the 2017 Michigan State recruiting class seemed all sewn up, the Spartans added one more player to the group. On Saturday, three-star athlete Shakur Brown committed to the green and white, marking the likely final addition to the incoming freshman class.

Brown, reigning from Stockbridge, Ga., was originally looking like a West Virginia-lean, but never signed with any program on National Signing Day. He announced his decision on Twitter Saturday, just a few days after taking a visit to East Lansing.

On top of West Virginia, schools like Kentucky, Minnesota, Ole Miss, South Carolina and Tennessee also offered him a scholarship.

Although he’s not given a position, he looks more like a cornerback or safety. If the Spartans are too loaded at both positions, he could play receiver. This is a nice replacement for a departing Kaleel Gaines who transferred from the program this past week.

It looks like Brown is one of the better athletes in Michigan State’s class, but he could work on his strength. While he has a high football IQ, reading opposing quarterback’s eyes, it looks like he could work on his tackling. Nice late addition for MSU, though.

Brown is ranked the No. 1,033 prospect in the 2017 class as well as the 74th-best athlete, according to 247Sports. Michigan State has had good luck with Georgia prospects in the past.
