Michigan State recruiting finally learned its fate with five-star small forward Brian Bowen as he committed to Louisville Saturday.

The wait is finally over. Michigan State recruiting learned its fate with five-star small forward Brian Bowen on Saturday as he announced he’d be spending the 2017-18 season at Louisville.

This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise as it was rumored earlier in the week, following his visit to Louisville last weekend, that Bowen had enrolled in summer classes at Louisville. However, compared to his recent list of top schools, this is a major curveball.

Louisville came in late during his recruitment and the Cardinals weren’t even a program on the radar before last weekend. Bowen, in typical crazy recruitment fashion, kept everyone on the edge of their seats until the very end.

Michigan State was the favorite to land the Saginaw, Mich., native from the beginning because of his early ties to the program and relationship with Tom Izzo. However, both sides seemed to cool on each other as the process wore on and other teams began to show more interest. Despite having a five-star teammate, Jaren Jackson Jr., committed to MSU, he chose his own route.

Bowen looked to be leaning toward Texas, Creighton, DePaul and Oregon over the past few weeks, but ended up with Louisville in the end. Did Miles Bridges’ return steer him away from Michigan State? It seems that way, but we will never know what truly deterred him from East Lansing.
