In need of depth on the defensive line, the Spartans can look at Goode’s trimmed list as an opportunity to bolster the unit. He posted his top eight on Twitter Thursday, stating that it could change still.
The Washington, D.C., native listed Michigan State, Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Temple, Indiana, Arizona and Virginia in his top group. There are just three Big Ten teams in the fold while most of the schools listed are on the East Coast — close to home.
Mark Dantonio could sell him early playing time and with the frame he brings to the table, he could be the next Craig Evans-type of defensive tackle. While Evans was a couple inches taller, both guys are thick, weighing in at around 315 pounds. The Spartans could afford to add size like that in the middle of the defensive line.
For a guy his size, he is sneaky quick and can run down a ball-carrier moving laterally. He’s tough to block up front and it usually takes double-teams to slow him down. He knows how to use that size to his advantage.
