Michigan State recruiting has added unrated 2017 small forward recruit Brock Washington as a walk-on.

For the second time this offseason, Michigan State has added a mid-major level walk-on. What do I mean by this? Well, Brock Washington was looked at seriously by several mid-majors and even offered a full-ride to play basketball for one, but turned it down to walk on at MSU.

The Southfield, Mich., native wasn’t ranked by any recruiting service, but Tom Izzo still treated him like a priority. He wanted Washington on the roster for next season and the young small forward decided to give his verbal to MSU on Tuesday as a walk-on.

As you can see by his highlight film, he has a knack for scoring, but his explosiveness may be lacking which is why he wasn’t highly sought-after by major programs. Still, he had a scholarship offer from Buffalo and he chose to walk-on at Michigan State instead. That just goes to show that the Spartans are a top-level destination in the basketball recruiting world.

Moreover, he has the type of game that could translate down the line to a scholarship. He can shoot and make plays on the offensive side of the ball which is something that Izzo loves to see.

Anyone that can shoot can find themselves a spot on the roster as a scholarship player. He, along with Braden Burke, might be the best walk-on at Michigan State in recent memory.

Washington stands 6-foot-4 and weighs in at about 185 pounds. He will be a nice practice squad player after likely redshirting in 2017-18 and could push for a scholarship in 2018-19, depending on availability.
