Former Michigan State football defensive end turned linebacker Marcus Rush has signed with the Kansas City Chiefs.

It’s been a bumpy NFL road for former Michigan State football star Marcus Rush. While he went undrafted and still found a spot on a practice squad, he still has never stuck with one team.

The San Francisco 49ers were the first team to give him a shot and he played well during preseason ball, but didn’t make the 52-man roster. Next, it was the Jacksonville Jaguars and he appeared in two games during the 2016 season, but recorded no stats.

Now, the Kansas City Chiefs are giving him a shot. According to reports, the Chiefs have released a linebacker to make room for Rush.

Obviously the tweet above has a typo as Rush is no longer a rookie — he was part of the 2015 rookie class. However, this is a prime opportunity for the former Spartan defensive end.

Playing well during the preseason last year and making a name for himself wasn’t enough for him to make a 52-man roster, but the Chiefs signing him this early in the offseason could mean that he has a good shot to make the squad come fall. He a tough, physical converted linebacker who isn’t afraid to put in the work to earn some playing time.

Heck, he had to fight for time as an under-appreciated recruit at Michigan State.
