Michigan State recruiting made the trimmed list of four-star 2018 defensive tackle Tyler Friday from Ramsey, N.J.

With a big summer for Michigan State recruiting coming up, the Spartans need to make an impression on top targets now in order to set up visits. The Spartans recently made the cut for 2018 four-star defensive tackle Tyler Friday from Ramsey, N.J.

You might think a list of top 15 schools doesn’t mean much, but for one of the best defensive tackles in the country, it’s an important step. He held over 20 offers and narrowed it down to the 15 he is most interested in moving forth with.

Michigan State is one of six Big Ten programs to make the list for the elite defensive tackle. The others include Nebraska, Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State and Rutgers. The Big Ten happens to be the most represented conference in Friday’s top 15.

Friday is listed as the No. 56 overall recruit and fourth-best defensive tackle in the 2018 class, according to the 247Sports’ composite. He stands 6-foot-3 and about 265 pounds and can absolutely overpower opposing linemen.

The Spartans could use some depth on the defensive line and Friday would provide just that. He can play both defensive end and tackle, but his frame translates to more of an interior lineman. He excels at shedding blocks, but he is also one heck of a left tackle himself.

Rutgers might be a favorite to land him due to proximity, but don’t count out Michigan State just yet. Both Michigan and Michigan State should make a decent push for Friday so it wouldn’t be a major surprise to see him in the Big Ten in 2018.
