Michigan State recruiting was hoping for good news regarding four-star 2018 linebacker Dallas Gant, but he picked Ohio State.

Michigan State had been in surprisingly good shape with four-star linebacker Dallas Gant from the beginning. The Ohio-native had called the Spartans a ‘dream school’ of his since he was a little kid, but on Tuesday afternoon, he picked a different path.

The nation’s top outside linebacker committed to Ohio State’s class of 2018 over the Spartans, Notre Dame, Michigan and Penn State. It didn’t come as much of a surprise as the Buckeyes were picking up steam over the past few weeks.

Michigan State would have liked to land the linebacker from Toledo, poaching another top recruit from the state of Ohio, but he decided to stay with the hometown favorite. Gant joins an already-elite class which will likely finish in the top five before it’s all said and done.

Gant had been highly sought-after for years, but the Buckeyes were able to seal the deal and keep him in state. His physicality, athleticism and instincts made him the top outside linebacker in the nation, according to 247Sports. In fact, he was ranked No. 23 overall and as the No. 1 outside linebacker in 2018. Moreover, he’s Ohio’s No. 2 recruit.

The Buckeyes have just one other 2018 commit from Ohio in four-star running back Jaelen Gill. The Spartans will have to look elsewhere for linebackers now. Tough to lose out on a kid who once called Michigan State a ‘dream.’
