The Spartans brought him in prior to the 2016-17 season for some added depth in the post and he was expected to play a major role. However, he suffered an injury before the season even began, his second in as many seasons.
On Monday, the NCAA decided to grant him a sixth year, boosting the Spartans’ already impressive roster for next season.
Carter started his career with Oregon, playing two years with the Ducks after redshirting and then he transferred back home to play for UNLV. He averaged 8.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game before suffering another season-ending knee injury halfway through the year.
It was a tough decision, but he chose to pursue a final season with Michigan State, but his injury in the fall prevented him from ever suiting up for the Spartans. Not many thought he’d get a sixth-year, but this is the ideal situation for Izzo and the Spartans.
