Former Michigan State football wide receiver Monty Madaris has signed a deal with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Throughout his Michigan State football career, Monty Madaris couldn’t seem to stay healthy. The Cincinnati-native had a tough time staying on the field, but when he was 100 percent, he was a force to be reckoned with.

In fact, he put together his best year as a Spartan in 2016 as a major contributor, catching a career-high 24 passes for 310 yards and his only touchdown during his college career.

Now, he’s getting an opportunity to parlay that improvement season into an NFL career, signing on as an undrafted free agent with the hometown Bengals.

It’s always good to see oft-injured college players with potential make a name for themselves during NFL training camps and it’ll be interesting to see if Madaris can be one of them. He has shown flashes of brilliance throughout his MSU career, but never enough to be considered a top draft prospect.

Signing with his hometown team, though, has to be a good feeling and might give him the confidence he needs to put together a solid offseason and make the 53-man roster or practice squad.

Fellow Spartan receiver R.J. Shelton signed with the Vikings following the draft as an undrafted free agent as well. Both guys have an opportunity to catch on at the NFL level.
