Michigan State recruiting target Mark Smith is set to make a decision on which school he will attend. Will the Spartans add another piece to their roster on Wednesday?

The recruiting world is a mystery and that’s been no more evident than the last few months for Michigan State basketball. Brian Bowen said that he would make a decision on his school for the last six months.

Brandon McCoy said he would make his school selection a couple weeks ago. Yet, in the final week of April, Spartan fans are still sitting and waiting to see what the 2017-18 version of the team will look like.

Fans will be one step closer Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET as Mark Smith will have a press conference at Edwardsville (Ill.) High School, to announce his school of choice, according to IllinoisInquirer.com.

More from Spartan Avenue

Smith is a four-star point guard that has received interest from a number of major schools in addition to Michigan State with Illinois the favorite and a few others with outside chances.

Smith made his official visit to MSU two weeks ago and Tom Izzo took a trip to him last week to give him a final word on why he should join the Spartans.

While Michigan State is already expected to be one of the better teams in the country after Miles Bridges announced his return, there are still places on the roster that have room for improvement. Smith could immediately see time in the backcourt as there are no new additions to the group from last year, with Eron Harris and Alvin Ellis III having expired their eligibility.

Smith would not only give the Spartans a building block toward the future in the backcourt, but also another piece to what is expected to be a national-title contender for next season.
