Michigan State recruiting is showing interest in four-star shooting guard David Singleton, a top-40 prospect for 2018.

Tom Izzo has been busy focusing on his 2017 Michigan State recruiting class, but that hasn’t stopped him from looking ahead a bit. In fact, the Spartans’ Hall of Fame head coach has reached out to a top 2018 prospect in four-star shooting guard David Singleton.

Fans may also be preoccupied with the 2018 cycle, but there’s reason to believe that the 2018 and 2019 classes will be just as solid as the 2016 and 2017 groups.

While the Spartans were in major need of bigs in 2016-17, they will be stocking up on post players this coming season. Guys like Gavin Schilling, Nick Ward, Xavier Tillman, Jaren Jackson Jr. and potentially even Ben Carter will be there to help out.

However, the guards will be on the lighter side. Josh Langford, Matt McQuaid, Cassius Winston, Tum Tum Nairn and Miles Bridges will all be rotating in the wing and point guard positions. Izzo knows that guards need to be addressed in 2018 so he’s looking at Singleton.

The nation’s 39th-best prospect for 2018, according to 247Sports, reigns from Torrance, Calif., and stands 6-foot-5 and 180 pounds.

Singleton has a bit of an unorthodox shot, but it’s effective. He shoots with confidence and isn’t afraid to jack up threes from five feet behind the line. He’s strong near the basket when he needs to be as well. He would give the Spartans another scoring option in 2018-19.
