Future Michigan State basketball star Foster Loyer has been named a MaxPreps first-team All-American.

Michigan State is getting one of the more underrated recruits in its 2018 class. Four-star point guard Foster Loyer may not look like your typical collegiate athlete, but the high school junior is a fierce competitor on the hardwood.

The 6-foot-0, 160-pound guard from Clarkston, Mich., just led his team to a state basketball title over future teammate Xavier Tillman at the Breslin Center. He put together a solid season and now he’s earning some national recognition.

On Tuesday, MaxPreps named Loyer a first-team All-American. The list of first-teamers was based on only players from the 2018 class — so juniors only.

Loyer is the only player who was named on the first-team that is currently committed to a college as the other four are still being courted. This just shows that Tom Izzo got an absolute steal with the Clarkston-native.

Michigan State fans will love the way Loyer plays. He can lead the offense effectively and he can shoot free throws at an elite level. In fact, he made 119 straight this past year. That’s something Spartan fans love to hear. He can shoot, pass, defend and get to the foul line. What’s not to like?

The 247Sports rankings dub him as the No. 107 player in the country as well as the 19th-best point guard.

Other Spartan targets to make All-American teams were four-star forward Brandon Johns (honorable mention) and Joey Hauser (third-team).
