Michigan State Recruiting: Mark Smith plans to take one more visit

According to reports, Michigan State recruiting may have to wait to hear word on whether Mark Smith will be part of the 2017 class.

It’s been a busy couple of weeks for Tom Izzo and Michigan State recruiting. The head coach had been checking in on top targets before the dead period and he just got done hosting four-star point guard Mark Smith over the weekend.

The past few weeks have been equally as busy for Smith, however. The Mr. Basketball award winner from the state of Illinois is currently being courted by teams like Michigan State, Illinois and Kentucky. Heck, Ohio State just jumped into the mix.

According to reports, Smith is planning on taking one final official visit, choosing between Kentucky and Ohio State.

While this news may have sent Michigan State fans in full-blown panic mode, it’s actually not bad news for the Spartans, but rather the Fighting Illini. In fact, no one (close to the process) expected Smith to commit this past weekend because, according to Luke Srodulski of Landof10, he said before his trip to MSU that he planned on taking one last official.

Moreover, Smith wanted to use all of his officials before making a decision and he’s going to do just that. By not visiting Illinois again, that could mean the Illini are on the ropes.

Don’t panic, Spartan fans, it’s what he had planned to do all along. Smith could still be part of Michigan State’s 2017 class, but it all depends on how this last official goes.
