Former Michigan State football tight end Jamal Lyles worked out with the Detroit Lions recently and called it a ‘dream.’

It’s many kids’ dreams to grow up a fan, play a college sport and be drafted by the hometown team. Former Michigan State tight end Jamal Lyles could be living out that dream soon enough as he recently worked out with the Detroit Lions.

Although he’s not exactly thought of as a draft option for the Lions, he could be on the radar in undrafted free agency. Plenty of Spartans have made names for themselves over the years with that kind of opportunity — Marcus Rush and Max Bullough are prime examples.

Lyles worked out with the Lions on Friday and he called it a ‘dream’, according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press.

"“Today it was like a dream out there because I’m a local kid from Detroit,” Lyles said. “It felt like how (Michigan State coach Mark) Dantonio told us to complete our circle. I felt like I completed my circle when I got to work out for the Lions today.”"

The former Spartan played four years at Michigan State after coming in out of high school from Southfield, Mich. He’s a local kid who grew up watching the Lions and wouldn’t be opposed to staying close to home for professional ball.

Mark Dantonio has to be proud of his former players getting their names out there even after a 3-9 season in East Lansing. Lyles finished his career on a high note, though, finishing with 12 catches for 145 yards and a touchdown as a senior — all career bests.

Moreover, fellow Spartan tight end Josiah Price has also been hearing from the Lions.
