1. Potential to win championship(s)

If you want to win, join Izzo. That should be the pitch Smith is hearing this weekend from the coaching staff and the players who will also be doing their part to make him feel at home. It won’t be tough to convince him that there’s a good chance the 2017-18 team could be Izzo’s best in quite some time.

Returning just about everyone minus Eron Harris and Alvin Ellis III, the Spartans have a bright outlook for the immediate future. Also, the team could return stud freshman Miles Bridges who could make the difference between a top 10 team and a top five team, locked in for a Final Four run.

Smith has the look of a four-year player and his game is very similar to that of Denzel Valentine. If he stays all four years, he has the potential to win multiple Big Ten titles and even be in the running for multiple national titles. He could be joining one of the most successful eras of Tom Izzo’s tenure.
