Michigan State Football: Josiah Scott could start as a true freshman
Michigan State football could have itself a true freshman cornerback — Josiah Scott — starting this fall.
The 2017 Michigan State football spring game had a different feel to it. About 15 players were out via injury or suspension and that meant the roster was depleted. That led Mark Dantonio to make it a defense vs. offense spring game in which the first-stringers faced each other for most of the game.

It’s true, he wanted a more competitive contest and that’s exactly what he got. The offense marched down the field on the last drive and had one play to try and tie it up. Brian Lewerke dropped back, fired the ball to Darrell Stewart Jr. at the pylon for the score, but it was broken up by Josiah Scott.
Moreover, the true freshman had himself quite the game. As one of three early enrollees, Scott opened some eyes on Saturday and received some of the highest praise from Dantonio.
Fans love when players are compared to guys like Darqueze Dennard or Trae Waynes. Scott fits that same mold as an underrated three-star cornerback who wasn’t really thought of as a star right out of high school.
However, he’s been showing off during spring practice and earning the praise of current and future teammates and coaches. Dantonio went as far as to say he is setting himself up to start as a true freshman.
