Michigan State recruiting, led by Tom Izzo, is targeting four-star point guard Blake Harris for its 2017 class.

Pulling out all the stops lately, Michigan State recruiting is making some serious moves. On Tuesday, Tom Izzo stopped by Word of God Christian Academy in Chapel Hill, N.C., to see four-star point guard Blake Harris.

While the Spartans aren’t exactly in the market for point guards, given that Tum Tum Nairn is coming back and Cassius Winston will be a sophomore, adding an athlete like Harris would be a major plus. In fact, he’s one of the most highly sought-after players in the 2017 class, especially since he’s reopened his recruitment.

Harris had been committed to Washington since July, but with the coaching changes the Huskies are facing, they’ve lost some recruits, including the point guard. He’s been on the market for about a week now and the Spartans are standing out to him already.

Michigan State is one of four schools currently in the running, followed by N.C. State, Missouri and Rutgers. Missouri and N.C. State may be the biggest contenders as one has his friend and former Washington commit Michael Porter Jr. (also the nation’s No. 1 recruit) and the other is close to home.

The Spartans could use a 6-foot-3 point guard with impressive handles, crafty passing and explosive drives to the rim.

While you must take high school highlight films with a grain of salt, this kid’s athleticism at the point guard position is no joke. He has some impressive handles, fights through traffic well and can rattle the rim with not much of a running start. If I had to pick one word to describe Harris’ game, it would be “explosive.”

Now, will the Spartans offer him? From all indications at this point, Izzo just stopped in to see him at his school, but Michigan State is already in his final four schools. An offer, and a visit, may just put the Spartans in the lead.
