According to WalletHub, East Lansing has been named the sixth-best college basketball city in America, behind cities like Los Angeles, Bloomington (Ind.), Philadelphia, Durham (N.C.) and Chapel Hill (N.C.). Michigan State’s campus finished right ahead of Kentucky’s (Lexington) and Kansas’ (Lawrence).
The criteria the website used to rank the cities was based on “the number of teams per city and the winning percentage of each to stadium capacity and social-media engagement.”
Other Big Ten cities to make the list, outside of Bloomington, were Ann Arbor (17th), College Park (18th), Champaign (70th) and West Lafayette (97th). Clearly the study believes that Michigan State has the second-best Big Ten basketball atmosphere with Michigan third and Maryland fourth.
For those who have been to basketball games in East Lansing, you know the atmosphere can be electric and there’s rarely an open seat in the building, especially during conference season and close to March.
