Matt Carrick hails from Massilon, Ohio, where he currently attends Perry High School. He stands 6-foot-4 and weighs about 305 pounds and he moves well. Chris Solari of the Detroit Free Press called Carrick a “road grader.” Carrick certainly fills the bill for what Michigan State is desiring with ability to pull with his quick feet.

When you watch his film, his explosiveness out of his stance overwhelms opposing linebackers and defensive linemen.

He is a player who does not get beat at the point of attack, because of his violent hands and agility to position himself. Carrick is a disciplined football player, who uses excellent leverage. Head coach Mark Dantonio is going to love yelling the MSU mantra ‘Pound Green Pound’ with Carrick leading the way. He’s also a versatile athlete playing on the defensive line.

If you’re looking for a classic Big Ten lineman, who is going to help elevate the Michigan State line, look no further than this three-star from Ohio.

This class of offensive linemen could go down as Dantonio’s most complete group of strong, athletic linemen. Barring injuries, this group should set the tone for Dantonio’s next few years. The coaching staff did their work with this group and Carrick is a huge reason they will excel.
