Harris went up for a layup on Saturday against Purdue and came down awkwardly on his knee, giving out a loud scream that gave viewers both in the arena and via television chills. The team rallied around him as he was taken away on a stretcher and tears filled the eyes of Miles Bridges and others.
It looked bad, but Tom Izzo stated that it was just a ‘badly sprained knee’ following the game, which seemed like best-case scenario.
However, on Sunday afternoon, the school announced that he would undergo surgery to repair the knee and he would miss the rest of the season and a potential NCAA Tournament run.
This is as tough of news as Michigan State could receive. The players were clearly shaken up by the injury right after it happened and it was tough to see one of their own go down in horrific fashion, knowing that his college career was likely over.
