Michigan State Recruiting: Breaking down LB Noah Harvey’s game

Michigan State recruiting added Noah Harvey right before National Signing Day and here’s what he brings to the table.

Michigan State was able to flip Noah Harvey form his Bowling Green commitment to the Spartans before National Signing Day. He may prove to be a player to keep an eye on in this class.

The week before National Signing Day, Noah Harvey was committed to Bowling Green, however, a visit to MSU on the last weekend in January proved to be key. The Hartland, Wisc., native flipped to the Spartans.

At first glance his commitment may appear to be an afterthought, but one only has to view his highlight film to know that this kid brings the heat at the outside linebacker position.

Matt Dorsey at the Detroit Free Press mentioned that Harvey will be extremely important for the Spartans because of his “versatility” and speed. Harvey excelled played offense and defense in high school. He is listed at 6-foot-3 although various sites have his weight somewhere between 210-220 pounds. He has natural instincts and the IQ to be a really good player.

When I watched his film, my immediate thought was that he reminded me of Chris Frey, a speedy, gritty linebacker with a nose for the pigskin.

It was fascinating to watch him take direct snaps at the quarterback position and take the ball to the house utilizing his quickness, agility, and breakaway speed. Coach Mark Dantonio needed a linebacker who hunt down those quick wide receiver bubble screens and swing passes. Harvey an excellent get for the Spartans.
