Michigan State Football: Mark Dantonio’s 15 most memorable games
11. Michigan vs. MSU (2013)
In what will forever be remembered as the ‘-48 game’, Michigan State pounded a 21st-ranked Michigan team into dust. The Wolverines had a tough time getting anything going offensively.
The game took place in East Lansing in 2013 and came one season after Michigan pulled off a 12-10 victory thanks to a game-winning field goal with no time left. Dantonio and the Spartans weren’t too happy about that loss and had this game circled on the calendar for a year.
Devin Gardner was the starting quarterback for the Wolverines and was looking to turn the program back in the right direction. He did end up passing for 210 yards against the vaunted MSU secondary, but it was what the defensive line and linebackers did to the Michigan offense that happened to cause nightmares for the Wolverines.
The game was tied 6-6 in the second quarter and Michigan State had already been beating up on Gardner with sacks and quarterback hurries, but the Spartans put the Wolverines to bed, winning 29-6.
Clearly the stat of the game was -48 rushing yards for the Wolverines while Michigan State’s Jeremy Langford racked up 120 yards and the game-sealing 40-yard touchdown run.
This was one of those games Michigan fans would like to forget at all costs.
