13. MSU vs. Wisconsin (2012)

In the last meeting between Dantonio and Wisconsin’s Bret Bielema before he shunned the Badgers and Big Ten for Arkansas and the SEC, the Spartans came away with a thrilling overtime victory.

Andrew Maxwell was the starting quarterback for the Spartans during the 2012 season and it was one of the most forgettable years under Coach D. Michigan State was just 4-4 with a tough schedule looming and needed a win in Madison to keep the hope of a bowl berth alive.

The entire game was a back-and-forth defensive battle and the two teams forced overtime with a 10-10 draw in regulation. Wisconsin got the ball first and couldn’t do much with it, kicking a field goal to take the lead to start the extra frame.

Michigan State got the ball and fought its way to the 12-yard-line on a 3rd-and-eight. Maxwell dropped back in the pocket, went through his progressions and found Bennie Fowler on a back-shoulder throw in the end zone for the win.

The Spartans went on to lose their next two games before winning the final regular season contest to advance to the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl in Arizona.
