6. KJ Hamler, 4-star WR

It’s pretty obvious by now that the coaching staff wants KJ Hamler to be part of its 2017 class. The four-star slot receiver has been on the Spartans’ radar since early on in his high school career and he has been to East Lansing multiple times over the past couple of years.

However, the current trend for the four-star wide out originally from Orchard Lake St. Mary’s (Mich.) happens to be his dream school: Oregon. Ever since he was a kid, Hamler has loved the way Oregon played football and he liked the electricity of the offense. Clearly, he’s the type of kid who could fit well into an athletic offensive scheme, making the Ducks an attractive landing spot.

Oregon finally offered Hamler back in May and that could have been the game-changer in his recruitment. The Spartan staff still wants him aboard despite having a slew of elite receivers coming in over the next two years, but there are backup options for him in case he does decide to head to Oregon.

Another wrench in the Spartans’ plans to land Hamler had to be the decision he made to attend IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., for his senior season. No longer will he be just a short drive away, but he will have to fly in if he wants to take an official to MSU this fall.

Hamler has yet to visit Oregon, but it could either live up to his expectations or not necessarily be what he thought it was. He’s ranked the No. 300 overall prospect and 42nd-best receiver in the 2017 class. He’d be a nice replacement for Shelton.
