The tides are turning in the Spartans’ favor drastically when it comes to four-star tight end Matt Dotson from Archbishop Moeller in Ohio. The pipeline that Michigan State has there is helping and Dotson’s relationship with Dantonio and Co. is strong.

Until very recently, it looked like it was a pretty even race between Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State and Penn State to land Dotson, but he recently cut his list to three — eliminating the Buckeyes. Now, it seems as if the Spartans are the clear favorite to add his verbal to the 2017 class.

Over the past few days, he’s received a large amount of Crystal Balls to Michigan State on 247Sports and the Spartans currently hold 13-of-16 votes. That must mean there are some behind-the-scenes rumblings.

Dotson plans to announce his decision before his senior season, and it might even come sooner than that, given the sudden momentum swing. He’s ranked No. 308 overall, the ninth-best tight end and No. 15 in Ohio for 2017.

The 6-foot-5, 235-pound tight end is athletic enough that he can line up at receiver and physical enough that he can drive his defender to the ground or out of the play completely.

Michigan State already has a pledge from Jack Camper and Tyler Johnson could also join the fold, but Dotson might end up being the next Josiah Price — or better.
