Rumors were spreading just a few short weeks ago that four-star receiver Danny Davis would become the next member of the Spartans’ 2017 recruiting class. There were rumblings that he would be committing at the spring football game, but it didn’t happen.

Danny Davis still looks like a strong Michigan State-lean and might just be waiting for the right time to give his verbal pledge to Mark Dantonio and the staff, but some are curious as to why he’s delaying what experts thought to be inevitable.

Either way, he’s still a top priority for this class and he would provide a definite spark on the offensive side of the ball. Dantonio has been recruiting Ohio as well as any coach in the Big Ten and Davis would be another product of the pipeline from the Buckeye State.

Davis is ranked the No. 230 overall prospect and the 30th-best receiver, as well as the 11th-best Ohio recruit, according to 247Sports‘ composite. The Spartans are also the Crystal Ball favorite and Ohio State, who has yet to offer, is a close second.

Whether he’s waiting for an offer from the Buckeyes remains to be seen, but he has a solid relationship with the coaching staff.

Who wouldn’t want a 6-foot-3, 180-pound receiver with incredible hands and breakaway speed?

The Springfield-native also holds offers from Kentucky, West Virginia, Iowa, Nebraska and Northwestern, among others.
