24. Participate in ‘Midnight Scream’

If you’re looking to hear this in person, you have just two days left in finals week. Even if you’re not a student, this is something very special that Michigan State students love participating in. I couldn’t imagine what the families who live right off campus do during finals week, because it can get noisy.

At midnight of every day during that dreaded exam-ridden week, students who live in dorms, apartments and houses on or near campus participate in a joint scream out of their windows, down hallways and just all around campus.

Be careful, though, you might hear some adult language as these students are really unhappy that they’re still up studying at midnight for the next day’s exam.

There’s really not much to it and I don’t know how it started, but it’s a great stress-reliever for anyone who has experienced that last week of the semester. Nothing feels better than yelling at the top of your lungs out your window with no one telling you to be quiet.

Don’t want to be in the middle of campus when this takes place but still want a taste of it? Just walk along Grand River and see what kind of sound you’ll pick up. It’s definitely one of the more interesting happenings at Michigan State.
