Right Guard

Projected Starter: Miguel Machado, Senior

Brandon Clemons might be listed as the starter at right guard on the spring depth chart, but there’s something about Miguel Machado that will make it very difficult for Dantonio to keep him off the field. The senior JUCO transfer lineman filled in for a few injuries on the offensive line last year and looked solid. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him starting at either position on the right side of the line.

Backup: Brandon Clemons, Senior (6th year)

Clemons is the backup, in my opinion, right now only because he has yet to be cleared to play by the NCAA for a sixth year. It’s presumed that he will be granted his sixth year of eligibility, but Machado will give him a real battle for that starting job. Clemons did a solid job in 2015, playing in 13 games and performing well — especially against Ohio State.

Reserve: Nick Padla, Sophomore

The third-year player moves over from his natural right tackle position to play guard and will bolster the depth at the position. There’s a chance he could see some action, but right now, there are two guys who have much more experience ahead of him.
