Left Tackle

Projected Starter: Dennis Finley, Junior

Dennis Finley got some playing time last season while Jack Conklin and Kodi Kieler were injured, but he, too, suffered an injury (broken leg) which sidelined him for the remainder of the year. It would be a little bit surprising to see him not take the starting job at left tackle, but he will have some competition from the guys below. Finley could be a nice replacement for Conklin.

Backup(1): Cole Chewins, Freshman (RS)

Shockingly, I’m going to pick Cole Chewins as the backup to Finley over a guy like David Beedle who was listed on the spring depth chart as the No. 2 guy. Chewins was impressive Saturday and has been earning high praise all spring long. He’s on the slimmer end, weighing just 265 pounds, but if he can add some weight onto that 6-foot-7 frame, watch out.

Backup(2): David Beedle, Sophomore

Redshirt sophomore David Beedle isn’t exactly a name you would see on the depth chart under left tackle a couple of years ago, but he’s put in the work to switch positions. He cam out of high school as one of the top defensive tackle recruits in the Big Ten, but his 6-foot-5, 310-pound frame was more suited for the offensive line. He saw action at left tackle during the 2015 season.

Reserve: A.J. Arcuri, Freshman

A kid who I believe will redshirt to start his Michigan State career, A.J. Arcuri will one day start at one of the five positions on the offensive line, but Mark Dantonio will surely want to save his eligibility.
