Michigan State Recruiting: Which elite prospects will be at spring game?
From an elite Ohio cornerback to one from Michigan, four-star 2017 Ambry Thomas is a high-priority target for Dantonio and his staff. Keeping the connection from Detroit King to Michigan State is imperative for the Spartans and, as stated earlier, Curtis Blackwell used to coach high school in Detroit and King was one of the schools he worked for.
Donnie Corley happens to be good friends with Thomas, as they’re former high school teammates, and the two have likely entertained the idea of playing in Michigan State’s secondary together.
Wait, isn’t Corley a receiver, you ask? Dantonio has stated that the 2016 pledge will inevitably play both ways like he did in high school, but needs to learn the offense to its fullest first.
Imagine a secondary with Corley and Thomas on opposite sides — King did with a state championship with that defense. The 6-foot, 170-pound cornerback from Detroit has an impressive offer sheet and his shutdown abilities in the defensive backfield have college scouts salivating.
Ambry is ranked No. 112 overall and is the eighth-best cornerback in the 2017 class. He’s received offers from the likes of LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, Pitt, Tennessee, Auburn, Iowa, Miami, Oklahoma, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
