Michigan State Recruiting: Which elite prospects will be at spring game?
Four-star receiver L’Christian Smith from the class of 2018 has a bigger connection to Michigan State than you might think. The elite receiver from the state of Ohio is former high school teammates with current true freshman quarterback Messiah deWeaver.
We all know the kind of pull deWeaver has had as a recruiting recruit. He helped Michigan State’s 2016 class get off the ground and become one of the best in the Big Ten, so imagine what he could do with a teammate who looked up to him, while also catching passes from him, in Smith.
Michigan State has yet to extend an offer to the big-time Ohio recruit, but if the Spartans do just that in the near future, he could be leaning toward the green and white. Not only would that be a huge get for Dantonio, but it could help deWeaver become more comfortable at quarterback when he eventually does take over as starter.
Smith is ranked the No. 94 prospect in the class as well as the sixth-best athlete. It’s still very early in his recruiting process, but he will likely be a priority target for plenty of major programs in the coming year.
The junior athlete holds offers from just Kentucky, Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State and Purdue thus far. That will grow drastically over the next few months.
