Michigan State Recruiting: 10 priority 2017 football targets to watch for
K.J. Hamler is one of those “can’t miss” recruits in the 2017 class who the Spartans should be the favorite to land. While Hunter Rison is currently a top priority at wide receiver, as mentioned on the intro slide, Hamler is probably No. 2 or No. 3 at the position.
Hamler has speed, and that can never be taught, nor replaced, in sports. Adding a guy like this would add an entirely new dimension to the offense and the future quarterback for Michigan State will have even more weapons to throw to.
R.J. Shelton plays the same type of game as Hamler as a slot receiver, in my opinion. Hamler isn’t the biggest guy, standing 5-foot-9 and weighing 155 pounds, and he’s more of a speed-type receiver who can line up on the inside and burn linebackers across the middle of the field and turn a 10-yard catch into a touchdown.
Not only can he play receiver, but he can return kicks and punts with the best. On one occasion this season, the junior receiver returned a punt and made about a dozen moves across the field laterally before going vertical and making national news with the ridiculous touchdown.
The Orchard Lake St. Mary’s receiver is ranked No. 324 overall and is the 46th-best wide receiver in the class, according to 247Sports.
