5. Michael Onwenu, 4-star OG

Projected school of choice: Michigan

Offering Michael Onwenu late may have been the nail in the coffin for Michigan State as Mark Dantonio and his staff knew that it had talent on the offensive line right under his nose in Detroit, but figured the Cass Tech product was solid to Michigan. However, Michigan State offered him on January 18 and he scheduled an official visit for the following weekend.

It’s seeming more likely that he stays with the Wolverines at this point despite the fact that he’s also visiting Oklahoma this coming weekend.

Onwenu has been committed to Michigan since early June but he even has a few ties to Michigan State, such as Cass Tech teammates committed, as well as his sister who attends the rival school in East Lansing.

However, reports released shortly after his visit to East Lansing showed that his mind was made up and he would likely remain a Wolverines, barring some unusual circumstance in which he no longer had a scholarship waiting for him in Ann Arbor — we have seen it before, but Onwenu is a talent that this staff does not want to let out of its grasp.

The big offensive guard is ranked the No. 36 player in the country and the second-best offensive guard, according to 247Sports. He will remain with Michigan.
