3. Matt Farniok, 4-star OT

The final three for four-star offensive tackle Matt Farniok of South Dakota includes Michigan State, Nebraska and Iowa. Many believe that it’s basically a two-man race between the Cornhuskers and Hawkeyes up until National Signing Day, but the reality of it is, he’s never been to Michigan State’s campus and he still has the Spartans in his top three.

Farniok is another guy who will be on hand for the Spartans’ big recruiting weekend on Jan. 22 and a visit to East Lansing for the first time is a bigger deal than people might think. Many recruits get there first taste of a campus and that’s all they need.

With a decision likely coming on National Signing Day, Farniok will be a guy who Spartan Nation will be keeping a close eye on. For the first time in recent memory, Michigan State will have a huge presence on NSD and there could be multiple commitments to the green and white before it’s all said and done.

The 6-foot-5, 297-pound offensive tackle from Sioux Falls is ranked the 129th-best recruit in the class of 2016 as well as the No. 14 offensive tackle, according to 247Sports. If the Spartans can land him, that would ease the pain of losing three starters this year on the line as well as give MSU a realistic incoming freshman starter candidate for the left tackle position.
