Michigan State Football: Top 50 players of all time
26. Blake Ezor
One of the most vastly underrated players in school history, Blake Ezor doesn’t really get the credit he deserves as one of the top running backs. Before Tico Duckett took the reigns at the position in 1990, Ezor was the starter for the Spartans in 1988-89, leading Michigan State to a 1-1 bowl record and a 14-9-1 overall record.
Right before Ezor was Lorenzo White, making it difficult for the Las Vegas-native to follow in his footsteps — that is a very tough act to follow.
However, Ezor recorded two 1,000-plus yards seasons in his two years as the starter, rushing for 1,496 yards and 11 touchdowns as a junior and 1,299 yards and 19 touchdowns as a senior. His numbers from his 1988 season were good for fifth overall in the NCAA and second in the Big Ten, easing the loss of White.
Not quite the name you would hear when people mention the best running backs who have ever played for Michigan State, Ezor is still No. 4 all-time in career rushing yards and fifth in rushing touchdowns. He was known for being one of the toughest runners out there and he even recorded a school record six touchdowns in the 1989 contest against Northwestern.
Ezor was a workhorse who went undrafted, but played for the Denver Broncos for a season in 1990.
