27. Tico Duckett

There are just two running backs who have more career rushing yards than Tico Duckett in Michigan State football history. Duckett was the first with the same last name to come through the program and set the standard for his younger brother, T.J., to follow.

Duckett rushed for over 1,000 yards three times in his career, the first Spartan running back to do so, and even had a Big Ten best 1,394 yards as a sophomore in 1990, helping the Spartans earn a share of the conference crown. He finished second in the conference in rushing yards in each of the next two seasons with 1,204 and 1,021 yards, respectively.

Finishing his career as the third all-time leading rusher at MSU, Duckett had 4,212 career rushing yards and also finished third in rushing attempts. He is 11th in career rushing scores, with 26, and he was one of the more exciting skill players to watch in school history, even winning the 1990 Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year.

The Spartans’ final two seasons with him at running back were a disappointment as they finished just 3-8 and 5-6 in 1991 and 1992, respectively. The George Perles Era was coming to a close, but Duckett was still one of the lone bright spots during this time.
