3. MSU vs. Michigan (1990)

Another one of those games against the in-state foe down the road in Ann Arbor. The Michigan vs. Michigan State game previously on this list was the one known as “Clockgate” in which T.J. Duckett was the hero and his older brother, Tico, had a helping hand in.

While the previous one was known by a particular name, this contest was known as “No. 1 versus no one.” Michigan came into the game as the top team in the country and the Spartans had a very small chance to upset the Wolverines on the road.

The game was played tight throughout and a 28-21 Michigan State lead with under a minute left had the Wolverines in full-blown rally mode. The game was ugly up until that point as there were just 146 total yards combined between the two teams and that didn’t matter as the Wolverines drove the field and scored a touchdown with six seconds left to come within one.

Michigan got a little greedy, though, as Gary Moeller decided to send his offense out for the two-point conversion, going for the win against the Spartans.

Desmond Howard appeared to slip behind the MSU defense only to fall down and drop the ball in the process. The Spartans came out on top, 28-27, in one of the biggest upsets of the season.
