2. Will fullback Trevon Pendleton play?
Michigan State FB Trevon Pendleton plays a very important role in Michigan State’s rushing offense. At 6-foot-0, 250 pounds, Pendleton delivers crushing blocks, paving the way for Michigan State’s running backs. He has also been an unlikely weapon in the passing game, catching a touchdown pass against Ohio State and ripping off of a 74-yard catch and run to the one-yard line.
Pendleton suffered a lower leg injury versus Penn State and was carried off the field. He did not return.
Pendleton is listed as the team’s starting fullback on this week’s depth chart, but Mark Dantonio would not comment on his status. Earlier in the year, cornerback Vayante Copeland was listed as a starter for the Air Force game, despite breaking his neck against Oregon a few days prior. So I would not put much faith into the depth chart.
If Pendleton cannot play, MSU will most likely use a combination of tight ends Paul Lang and possibly Matt Sokol at fullback. Paul Lang has been an excellent blocker at tight end for Michigan State this season. Let’s hope he’ll be able to step up if Pendleton can not play.
