3. Will Tum Tum show up more on offense?

All offseason long, we heard the likes of Tom Izzo and multiple Spartan players claim that Lourawls “Tum Tum” Nairn had been in the gym more than anyone, getting up shot after shot in order to improve his offensive output.

Last season, he was nothing more than a defensive point guard, much like Travis Walton was, who could come in and make the occasional drive to the basket, but even with a wide open layup, he would pass the ball out to the three-point line and hope his teammates bailed him out of an earful from Izzo for not taking the shot.

This season, Izzo has told him that he expects more offense from the point guard position than he provided last year. No, Tum Tum isn’t going to be a Travis Trice-type shooter right away, but he will expect his sophomore point guard to put together 7-to-12 points per game and not be passive with wide open shots.

Against Florida Atlantic, Tum Tum made 3-of-5 field goals for seven points while also dishing four assists and getting five rebounds. He was one point off his career-high and his five field goals tied a career-high. That’s a good sign and we should see even more of the speedy point guar running the floor, driving to the hole and making some easy baskets.
