4. Multiple receivers will contend for No. 2

Looking at Michigan State’s leading receivers, one thing is certainly clear: Aaron Burbridge is the real deal. Catching a team-high 52 passes for 830 yards and five touchdowns is something not many people expected, although it was clear from week one on that he would be Connor Cook’s favorite target.

However, no true No. 2 wide out has emerged — albeit R.J. Shelton looks poised to take that role away from Macgarrett Kings.

While Shelton has looked like the No. 2 wide out over the last few weeks, racking up 27 catches for 300 yards and three scores on the year, Kings is another viable option to be Cook’s second-favorite option. Kings has 24 catches for 305 yards and two scores.

It seems to be down to these two guys fighting for the No. 2 spot, but that won’t be the case as another receiver or two will come into play over the next month. I’m not counting tight ends as I already believe Josiah Price will see an up-tick in catches, yards and remain consistent with touchdown receptions.

This last month, we will see a guy like DeAnthony Arnett really show up in the final weeks as a Spartan receiver or maybe even junior wide out Monty Madaris come into play a solid target. Madaris, in my opinion, is going to be the go-to guy next season — along with Shelton and Felton Davis III — so he would be a good choice to be No. 2 for the final month.

Let’s just say, it’s going to be interesting to see who breaks out.
