3. LJ Scott worthy of No. 1 RB duties

Despite there being virtually no run game to speak of for the Spartans because of the lack of holes to hit for these backs, true freshman L.J. Scott continues to show that he’s worthy of the starting job.

For whatever reason, he didn’t start the game and didn’t really get many carries early behind Delton Williams, Gerald Holmes and even Connor Cook. There were a couple designed run plays for Damion Terry as well that left many people wondering, ‘Where’s LJ?’

Scott came in the game and got the job done. Although it took a couple of long runs late to make his rushing total of 11 carries for 68 yards and a touchdown look respectable, those runs came after all other backs had a difficult time finding holes.

Whether it was the Indiana front-seven wearing down because of the fact that they stopped the run game all day long or just that Scott has a knack for finding the hole and hitting it hard, the Spartans seemed to have more success on the ground when they let the young star loose.

Of course, when Madre London comes back, he will likely be the starter again — which he should until he finds a cold spell — but Scott has proved that even without London, he deserves to be handed starting duties — and that’s not a knock against Holmes and Williams.

Also, those Damion Terry wildcat formations need to go unless he’s going to fake an option and pass it one time to catch the defense off guard.
