3. Michigan dominated 59 minutes of the game

Games are played 60 minutes at a time. No team has ever won a game for taking plays off, and the Spartans proved that here as they didn’t just play dead on the final play of the game even if blocking the punt was extremely unlikely.

Some Michigan fans have claimed that the Wolverines dominated 59:50 of the game and the Spartans only won the last 10 seconds.

Yes, Michigan State did not hold a lead throughout the entire contest. The game was tied at seven at one point, but Michigan held the lead [nearly] for good after that. The Wolverines took a two-point advantage into the final play, but fell four points short when it mattered most.

As for dominating for 59 minutes, if the only thing that was looked at throughout the game was the scoreboard, then yes, you could say Michigan put the proverbial hand in the Spartans’ face. However, it was not a blowout, by any means, and Michigan was skimming along by the skin of its teeth.

In fact, the Spartans dominated in some facets of the game including total yards, passing yards and first downs. The Spartans doubled up the Wolverines’ passing attack and first downs acquired while finishing with 150 more total yards on the day.

No, Michigan did not dominate until the final 10 seconds. If that were the case, MSU wouldn’t have even had a shot to win it.
